Heavy Metals & Salt Removed with Flexible Polymer Membrane

Researchers at the University of California-Berkeley have found a way to simply remove toxic heavy metals during a desalination process to produce clean water.  The chemists synthesized flexible polymer membranes and embedded nanoparticles that absorb specific metal ions.  This new technique removes nearly 100% of toxic metals, creating a brine alone with pure water and isolating the metals of value for later use or disposal.
